A large canvas portrait of the late actress and princess, Grace Kelly, by artist, Peter Engels, is to be sold at an auction in Monaco in the presence of Kelly’s son, Prince Albert II of Monaco.
The 1x2 metre canvas is painted in sepia tones and has a unique, vintage feel about it, according to the artist, who says the painting is a tribute to one of the most stylish women of all time.
The buyer of the painting, which will be auctioned on 9 May, after being shown from 25 April to 2 May at the Monte Carlo Grand Casino, will be contributing to a worthy cause. The proceeds are going to be donated to the Lions Club, which provides care for disabled people.
The canvas shows Grace Kelly in front of Monaco Marina. Engels says, “Princess Grace was a breathtaking lady. At the peak of her life she tragically passed away. Just like John F. Kennedy, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Ernest Hemingway, Elvis Presley and John Lennon, who all died at the top of their careers, she will forever be an icon.”
The painting is expected to fetch somewhere in the region of EUR 60,000.
